U18 Mainstream - General Information

Player eligibility:

  • For the 2025-26 season: birth years 2008-2010
  • 18-year old players are only eligible for Overage status if they are still enrolled full-time in high school.
  • Mainstream division teams are predominantly made up of male players, although both male & female players are eligible to be rostered to a Mainstream team.
  • Female players may choose to be rostered with either a Mainstream or Female team. For more information about our Female division teams, click here.

Team format:

  • Team size is dependent on number of players registered and will be a maximum of 18 skaters + 2 goalies.

Tryouts/Player Evaluations:

  • TBA (expected mid September)

Equipment required:

  • CSA approved helmet and face mask
  • Throat protector
  • Shoulder Pads
  • Elbow Pads
  • Hockey pants/girdle
  • Hockey gloves
  • Athletic support
  • Shin Pads
  • Hockey socks (for practices and games)
  • Practice jersey
  • Skates
  • Hockey stick

Game apparel:

  • Game jerseys will be provided by Battle River MHA
  • Name bars for jerseys are at the choice of each team.
    • If player name bars are to be placed on jerseys, they must be purchased and applied by a board-approved vendor at the cost of parents.
    • Ordering of player name bars will be organized by your team manager at the start of the season.
  • Game socks
    • Available for purchase from Battle River MHA
    • 1 pair dark (home) + 1 pair light (away)

Practices:

  • 2 per week (1hr + 1.25hr), starting in September and ending in March
  • Practices will be held in Killam or Sedgewick, or a combination of both towns, depending on ice availability.
  • Schedule will be announced closer to the start of the season.

League Games:

  • Our U18-mainstream team(s) participate in the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL).

  • From mid-October through March, U18 teams can expect to play 1-2 league games per weekend.
